METHODOLOGY FOR NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF A MULTI-HOLE INJECTOR WITH EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION

Leonardo Mayer Reis

Resumo

In this work, a numerical model for a spray generated by a multi-hole injector has been developed and used to analyze the spray behavior and properties. Initially, all simulations were done representing the experimental conditions in which the injection has been made in a chamber at atmospheric pressure. The injections pressure was 100 bar and the KHRT (Kelvin-Helmholtz Rayleigh-Taylor) was the model chosen to represent the secondary break-up. A mesh sensitivity test was performed to study the influence of the mesh variation on the results and choose the most adequate mesh to this analysis. After the validation of the spray injected in the chamber, the results provided a model that allowed the simulation of the direct injection showing the spray characteristics, such as penetration, cone angle, droplet diameters, and droplet velocities.
